The Essure Facebook Group allows women who are suffering from the Essure birth control device to share their experiences and to alert their Facebook friends as well

Monday, April 9, 2018 - The beauty of social media is that it can serve as a tool to alert people of the potentially deadly side effects of medical devices and drugs when medical equipment manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies refuse or hesitate to do so. There are currently over 36,000 members of the Facebook group entitled, "Essure Problems" and many of them are sharing their horrible experience with the device. Medical patients have a right to all of the facts in order to make an informed decision about the device or treatment. Here are a few of the tens of thousands of women's experiences with the Essure birth control device.

One young woman that has suffered from the Essure device thinks that the risks far outweigh the benefits and that even though Essure works for some, it is not worth taking the chance. She writes in November 2017 that she had Essure implanted in 2013 and that she and her partner had to continue to use other forms of birth control as the Essure coil never adhered to her right fallopian tube as promised. For the next two years, she was in constant pain as the device migrated into her uterus requiring laparoscopic surgery to remove the tube and coil. As the pain continued she was forced to have the other coil and fallopian tube removed as well, not suffering for four years and through two surgeries. She is left wondering why she didn't just have a tubal ligation in the first place.

Another woman, Eva, experienced severe pain on her right side for over 3 years after having Essure implanted during which time she suffered from heavy periods and from constant uterine infections. After 3 years of suffering, she opted to have a hysterectomy to remove the device, the exact procedure her Essure doctors advised that the device could prevent. Responding to Eva's post, Jodie writes that she also has to have her fallopian tubes removed because of fluid buildup that leaves her with terrible periods and in constant pain.

Elizabeth G writes that she is experiencing, "severe cramping all the time, some sharp stabbing pain occasionally, and constant back pain. I've also haven't had a period since I got it (Essure)."

And as many have said, Essure was originally marketed to young women as a convenient, "family planning tool" as it could be easily removed when a couple intended to start a family. Imagine the thousands of women whose lives are now ruined because they cannot have children due to the negligence of Bayer in failing to warn them of Essure's risks. Katie G writes that that was her experience after her doctor recommended Essure for just this purpose back in 2005. One of the coils soon broke inside of her leaving her in constant, excruciating pain and she was forced to have her tubes tied. Constant pain, cramping, and menstrual issues followed over the years until another doctor found pieces of the metal coil on a routine chiropractic x-ray, a fishhook-shaped shard now embedded in her pelvic area. Essure lawyers handling Essure lawsuits will not be class action lawsuits where those filing a claim can expect to receive only very small settlements.
