Family Planning Professionals Recommend Essure

In spite of the tens of thousands of adverse event reports claiming serious injuries from Essure, family planning professionals continue to recommend the device over other forms of birth control

Wednesday, April 25, 2018 - Essure's is a highly recommended form of birth control by family planning organizations and hundreds of thousands of women seeking to avoid pregnancy are advised to have the procedure each year. Planned Parenthood highlights the features of Essure on their website stating that the Essure procedure "may be covered by major insurance carriers, and offers features like no other form of birth control such as avoiding surgery and anesthesia, no hormones, light recovery, quickly inserted and (a follow up procedure to make certain that it will work as planned)." The organization goes on to stress that Essure is trusted by hundreds of thousands of women. Doctors specializing in gynecology were advised by Bayer that Essure was a technologically advanced, safe and flexible form of birth control. According to Planned Parenthood, "Unlike other permanent birth control, the Essure procedure does not require cutting into the body or the use of electricity to burn the fallopian tubes. Instead, an Essure trained doctor inserts soft, flexible inserts through the body's natural pathways (vagina, cervix, and uterus) and into your fallopian tubes."

Women wanting to avoid pregnancy were assured by their doctors that the Essure birth control device is inserted into the vagina, does not require surgery, and can be performed in the comfort and convenience of the doctor's office without admission to a hospital. Women were also told that the device could be just as easily removed as it was inserted if and when the time came that a woman wanted to become pregnant.

Women that have had the Essure device implanted may have been left in the dark as to the adverse side effects that the device has been causing. Adverse event reports suggest that approximately 10-15% of women who have had the Essure birth control device implanted experience painful, debilitating side effects immediately after the procedure or shortly thereafter. Essure themselves now admit and warn women contemplating Essure of the following risks: "Immediately Following the procedure you may experience mild to moderate pain and/or cramping, vaginal bleeding, and pelvic or back discomfort for a few days after the procedure. Some women experience headaches nausea and/or vomiting or dizziness and/or fainting."

As a result of their suffering, Essure patients are filing lawsuits to recover reimbursement for their medical expenses, lost wages, pain, and suffering and other compensation for the injuries they have endured from undergoing Essure implantation. Essure lawyers stand at the ready in all 50 states. Thousands of women across the US are suing Bayer and Essure's inventor, Conceptus, alleging fraud and negligence. Lawsuits also claim that the company knew in advance that the device was failing to stay in place and adhere to a woman's fallopian tube, migrating to the uterus and perforating. This caused women extreme pain, abnormally heavy and painful menstruation, and auto-immune issues as the body rejected the foreign object. These adverse event reports failed to make it to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Women experience adverse reactions to the Essure birth control device should seek the counsel of a knowledgeable Essure birth control attorney to discuss their legal options.
