Essure Sales Continue Unabated in 2019

In spite of discontinuing sales directly to the medical community, Essure continues to be sold by online vendors

Wednesday, March 6, 2019 - In 2018 Bayer pharmaceuticals announced that they would discontinue selling Essure birth control device effective at the end of the year citing financial reasons and flatly denying the product was malfunctioning. Three months into the new year it is becoming increasingly evident, however, that neither could be further from the truth. Essure birth control attorneys represent families and people harmed by Essure birth control faulty devices and offer free consultation.

Women harmed by the Essure birth control device celebrated a victory over Bayer when it appeared at first that the company was withdrawing the product from the market. It looks as if Bayer may have been merely implementing a new Essure distribution business model and not responding to a lack of demand as they had previously claimed. The Essure Problems weekly newsletter reports that although Bayer has discontinued directly marketing the birth control device, Essure continues to be sold in the secondary market by online vendors. If you know where to look there is an ample supply of Essure available to any Essure doctor that wants them.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has failed to force a total recall of the failed medical device, and as a result, no law is being broken when Essure is offered for sale. For all we know, Essure doctors continue to sell and implant Essure as if nothing was wrong with the blessings of Bayer that maintain that Essure is a safe and effective form of permanent birth control. In spite of the pressure put on those in the "Essure business" to stop selling, implanting, and using Essure by social media, activists, and others, Essure doctors stand by the product. When associates of the Essure Problems Facebook group went to gynecologists in their area they found offices were continuing to promote Essure using out-of-date brochures.

In addition to purchasing Essure from third-party online vendors, Essure doctors "stocked up" on the product and most of them have years of inventory on hand, enraging the Essure Problems Facebook online community. "This is a huge slap in the face to women everywhere. While Bayer said it was voluntarily removing Essure from the US market due to financial reasons, NOT safety reasons, we believe sales have declined due to the horrific stories of permanent injuries Essure has caused."

To make matters worse a recent CNN investigative report found that Bayer marketing representatives paid doctors that would promote Essure, legal yet highly unethical "under the table" payments for services doctors account for as speaking engagements and educational seminars. CNN found that some doctors have been paid more than $100,000 in addition to what they made by selling Essure itself. It is yet to be determined if the Essure payments are done on an illegal commission basis determined by the volume of Essure sold by each doctor. Such activity would surely amount to an illegal bribery scheme and could subject Bayer to fines in the billions of dollars.
