Women Should Formally Register and Tell Their Essure Birth Control Horror Stories

Women suffering from abnormal symptoms have been told by their gynecologists that Essure was harmless and could not cause their unusual medical symptoms

Monday, December 31, 2018 - Gynecologists in the United States are continuing to implant the Essure birth control device in women seeking a permanent birth control solution in spite of the tens of thousands of complaints that are being made by women suffering from the device. According to NBC news, "The FDA said Monday that over 15 years - Nov. 4, 2002, when Essure was approved, through December 2017 - it received 26,773 reports of problems, including pain, heavier periods and irregular bleeding, headaches, and fatigue. Patients also reported that the device had become dislodged or had broken." That number, however, may only be a small fraction of the total number of Essure complaints that actually made it to the FDA. Other complaints made by Essure women include "fevers, achy joints, constant bleeding - was nearly debilitating.," according to Angie Firmalino in an interview with NBC News. Ms. Furmilino is the founder and administrator for the wildly popular Essure Problems Facebook group currently with around 40,000 members. Most members of this Facebook group view it as their only opportunity to voice their concerns over the health problems they've experienced with Essure.

In addition to the unacceptably large number of FDA and Facebook complaints, there may be tens of thousands of Essure sufferers that are unaware that the birth control device is the cause of their medical problems. Women suffering the adverse symptoms from Essure usually seek the guidance of their gynecologist, the same physician that implanted the Essure device in them, to begin with. All too often women are told that the pain they are suffering from is "psychosomatic and all in their head." Essure women are rarely taken seriously by their gynecologist for fear of litigation as well as the physician being unwilling to jeopardize their financial relationship with Bayer. Most Essure doctors are paid under the table payments by Bayer Inc., the maker of Essure, for questionable services accounted for as educational seminars and staff training. To date over 750,000 women have accepted the Essure birth control device on the advice of their Essure doctor which could lead to thousands of Essure failure every year for decades.

The FDA's acknowledgment of 26,000 patients suffering from Essure problems comes in the wake of Bayer deciding to discontinue selling is sure effective December 31, 2018. The discontinuation of Essure sales will do nothing to stem the tide of the controversial birth control device failing in millions of women who now have them over the years to come. The FDA vows to continue to hold Bayer accountable for post-market testing of Essure as well as continuing to require new patients to fill out and submit the FDA's checklist of Essure's known side effects.

Women suffering from the adverse symptoms of Essure should join the Essure Problems Facebook group for help in finding a doctor in their area that is experienced with Essure location and removal.
