Choosing The Essure Birth Control Device Was Flawed Logic for Many

Unless an Essure patient accepts the fact that this foreign object will be in their bodies permanently, the eventual removal of Essure will require a hysterectomy and cause sterility

Thursday, July 12, 2018 - There are so many benefits to using the Essure birth control device that, over the last decade, millions of women worldwide have chosen the popular birth control device. Gynecologists have recommended Essure for the convenience of the minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure that can be performed in the comfort of the doctor's office, and for the fact that Essure was 99.9% effective until the woman opted to have the device removed. Today, however, Essure's maker, Bayer Pharmaceuticals stresses on its Essure website that Essure is a form of "permanent" birth control. Such a designation is a dramatic departure from previous company claims that the Essure birth control device could be removed, unblocking the Fallopian tubes, and once again allowing fertilization to occur when a woman wanted to start or continue having children.

The Essure coil is designed as a small spring interwoven with abrasive fibers that are designed to cause inflammation and scar tissue that affixes the device to the Fallopian tubes and blocks fertilization. When the device works as intended, the scar tissue prevents its removal without removing the Fallopian tubes also. The device also malfunctions by breaking into pieces where it is then free to travel to other parts of the reproductive system becoming embedded wherever it happens to land. When women want to have Essure removed, a partial or total hysterectomy is required, the exact dangerous, painful surgical experience they intended to avoid with Essure.

Essure has caused abnormally heavy and longer periods, severe cramping, and constant, searing pain, giving bedridden Essure patients no other choice than to attempt to have the device removed. Unfortunately for many, removing the device also included removing a major part of the female reproductive system leaving a woman permanently and irreversibly sterile. The change in Essure's marketing appears to be in response to the tens of thousands of women that have experienced life-altering adverse side effects from using Essure and demanded that the device is removed.

Women that expected to be able to have Essure easily removed are shocked to find that the removal of the device requires having a hysterectomy. In an unacceptably high number of Essure patients, the contraceptive device has either pulled away from the Fallopian tube or broken apart migrated away from the inner wall of the Fallopian tube, and caused damage to the reproductive organs. Women that have been left sterile from Essure removal are consulting with Essure attorneys to see if they qualify to file a claim against Bayer Pharmaceutical for misrepresenting the device as a form or temporary, reversible birth control and seeking to be compensated for their medical expenses, lost wages, and especially for their pain and suffering.
