Women Elaborate Their Essure Problems

Essure warning does not go nearly far enough in warning women of the consequences Essure can have to their health

Monday, May 21, 2018 - If one spends any time researching the adverse side effects of the Essure Birth Control Device they would immediately get the impression that those listed by Bayer in the product warning are inadequate. The literature provided by Bayer and the Black Box warning does not go far enough to describe the range of symptoms and the emotional scars Essure women are forced to endure. The Facebook Group entitled "Essure Problems" allows tens of thousands of women to voice their complaints about Essure and to list their symptoms. This is done as a community service to warn others that there is much they are not being told.

For example, an Essure victim wrote recently of her regrets over getting Essure implanted. She lists, getting 2 periods per month, needing to take laxatives to have bowel movements, constant stomach pain, bloating to the point of looking pregnant, constant nausea, and migraine headaches as her Essure-related symptoms. Moreover, she tells the tale of what happened to her when she sought a physician to remove Essure. The woman was laughed at by every doctor she spoke to, failing to take her complaints seriously. She also found out the hard way that most physicians are completely unaware as to how to go about removing the device. (As a side note, most women that actually do have the Essure removal surgery will face tubal ligation at a minimum. This is because the Essure device becomes purposely encased in scar tissue on the Fallopian tube.)

An Essure woman writes that she was having extremely painful periods for the first three years and that they were getting progressively worse. Her symptoms spread to places in her body where she could not believe Essure to be the problem. She was having extreme tooth pain when trying to chew food, pain in the jaw below the ear, abnormal hair loss, and an inability to sleep. All of these symptoms ceased when she had Essure removed.

Although symptoms caused by Essure stops once the device is removed, the device is difficult to fully remove. Women who have had Essure removed only to have their symptoms continue have requested their surgical pathology report to examine if the device had broken or left fragments of polyethylene terephthalate fibers behind that are continuing to cause inflammation.

Most women feel that the risks of Essure far outweigh any potential benefit the device might offer. Some women have different problems with each Essure coil. A woman reports that one of her Essure coils migrated to her uterus and punctured it requiring surgery to remove the Fallopian tube and the Essure coil. When her severe back pain didn't go away she was forced to have the other Essure coil removed.

Women report frequent and severely painful urinary tract infections and unmanageable mood swings not mentioned as potential side effects by their doctors or by Bayer. Women report painful periods and fluid trapped in the Fallopian tube that require its removal.

Most women feel that they were deceived by the sales pitches of doctors that sold the Essure device to them. The potential side effects were minimized and downplayed as affecting such a small percentage of patients that they were not even worth talking about. More than anything else, millions of women were told that Essure was "reversible" and that it could be removed when the time came that they wanted to get pregnant. That has turned out to be a blatant lie and thousands of women are hiring Essure lawyers to hold Bayer accountable for their negligence.
