Essure Side Effects and Removal of the Device

Essure has a never-ending list of adverse side effects that leave women wondering what to do to get the device removed from their bodies

Friday, May 11, 2018 - The list of adverse side effects reported by women who have had the Essure birth control device implanted in them is staggering, to say the least. What was originally marketed to young women who were in the prime of their lives as a safe, convenient and "reversible" method of birth control has, in reality, turned their bodies and their lives inside out and upside down. Many are hiring an Essure attorney and suing Bayer, maker of the Essure device.

Allergic Reaction to Essure

A frequently reported side to the Essure birth control device is the body rejecting the device's Nickel plating which causes severe allergic reactions. Signs that the body is rejecting the Essure device are severe cramping and bloating accompanied by painful blisters on the hips, thighs, legs, and feet. Other symptoms of allergic reactions to Essure include pain in the pelvic region, abnormal monthly bleeding, and extreme discomfort when having sex.

The Device Sometimes Does Not Work

Of the many horrible side effects that the Essure birth control device is known to cause women, none is worse than the device failing to work in the first place. Women in their twenties and thirties have reported that the Essure birth control device has migrated away from its intended location in the fallopian tubes and into the uterus, perforating it and necessitating emergency hysterectomy surgery, a dangerous, invasive and painful surgical procedure and the reason most chose Essure over hysterectomy, to begin with. In addition, when the Essure device migrates away from the fallopian tube, pregnancy can occur. Over 300 fetal deaths including miscarriages and stillborn births are directly linked to using Essure. It is unclear the number of birth defects that affect unwanted Essure babies.

Essure Removal

Tens of thousands of women who are in unbearable pain are opting to have their Essure device removed. Many of them are shocked when told by their oncologist that in order to do so will require a hysterectomy. Many times when the pain is excruciating it is because the device has migrated and punctured another part of a woman's reproductive system. Other times the device has become so encased in scar tissue that the fallopian tube has to be removed. A major concern of physicians that have little or no experience removing the Essure device is that the device may fracture when removed and metal fragments can be left inside the woman and cause severe complications.

Essure Lawsuits

There are currently thousands of Essure birth control lawsuits pending against Bayer, the maker of the device for failing to adequately test the device and for bringing a faulty product to market. Bayer has discontinued selling Essure in every country with the exception of the United States. Women injured by Essure can be found on the Essure Problems Facebook Group. Those women and activists such as Erin Brockovich and a United States congressmen, U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick, a Pennsylvania Republican, are joining forces to have Essure taken off of the US market until further testing can be completed at the very least.
