Essure Doctors Act More Like Bayer Commissioned Salespersons When Selling Essure to Their Patients

Women seeking medical advice instead been given Essure sales presentations by their gynecologist

Wednesday, February 13, 2019 - Again and again, Essure women all over the world are being told by their Essure doctors that the debilitating pain and constant bleeding that they are suffering from is "all in their heads and that they must be crazy." Essure doctors that refuse to admit that the device has migrated and perforated a woman's uterus, or has caused an allergic or immune reaction are putting women's lives at risk. It is universally very difficult if not impossible for women seeking the removal of Essure to find a doctor that is qualified and willing to remove the birth control device. Bayer has offered no guidance to their army of Essure-promoting doctors across the country as to how Essure can be removed. Essure doctors do not admit Essure is the root problem of a woman's suffering, and have no idea as to how to remove Essure, and are unwilling as well to refer their patients to a doctor that can safely remove the device.

Women who seek what they thought would be sound, informed, medical advice as to how best prevent future pregnancies, have instead been given what seems like an Essure sales presentation by their gynecologist. Essure doctors on Bayer's, under-the-table payroll, have told their patients that Essure would be safer, more convenient, and cheaper than alternatives such as tubal ligation and hysterectomy. Essure women have said that their co-pay, the portion of the medical bill that they are to pay, would only be about 10% of the other birth control methods if they chose Essure. For the record, most Essure removals result in an expensive and dangerous hysterectomy to fully remove Essure. And if that wasn't enough, Essure removal is rarely covered by medical insurance and can cost the patient lost wages from time away from work, and travel, and lodging expenses. Angie Firmalino, head of the 40,000-plus member Facebook group Essure Problems, told an interviewer that she is seeing women continuing to have problems six years after attempting to have Essure removed and that doctors have botched the removal procedure by breaking the Essure device and leaving a portion behind as well as only being able to stretch out the device without removing it. If all goes well with Essure, the spring-like coil becomes encased in scar tissue about three months after it is inserted and blocks the Fallopian tube preventing fertilization. In so doing, however, Essure only removal is nearly impossible without removing at least a large section of the Fallopian tube to which it has become encapsulated.

Although Bayer has stopped selling Essure, doctors continue to keep women seeking birth control in the dark by failing to warn them of Essure potential to cause catastrophic medical problems. Essure doctors, most of whom are receiving legal yet highly unethical payments from Bayer for speaking engagements and performing (bogus) Essure educational seminars continue to sell their leftover supplies of Essure which many have "stocked up" on in anticipation of Bayer halting sales.
