Unwanted Pregnancy Is An Ongoing Problem For Essure Women

Essure may be off of the market but millions of women will continue to suffer from its defects

Friday, March 1, 2019 - The Essure birth control device causes so many adverse side effects that some of the more critical once can go relatively unnoticed. Becoming pregnant while using Essure is more common than one would expect. An alarmingly high number of Essure patients experience device migration that effectively unblocks the Fallopian tubes permitting fertilization to occur. Essure women that become pregnant while using the device are reporting Ectopic pregnancies and other complication when becoming pregnant while using Essure. It has been estimated that Essure women are ten times more likely to become pregnant than those that choose more common laparoscopic sterilization methods. Aileen Gariepy, assistant professor in the department of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences at the Yale School of Medicine, has studied Essure pregnancies and reports that computer models estimate that "57 per 1,000 women (could become pregnant using Essure), compared with about 3 to 7 per 1,000 women (using a traditional) laparoscopic sterilization procedure over a 10-year period," Pregnancy rates are also underestimated during the first 4-6 months after implanting Essure as sufficient scar tissue may not develop leading to fertilization.Essure birth control device lawyers handling national Essure claims offer a no obligation free consultation.

According to Planned Parenthood, Ectopic pregnancy is "when a pregnancy grows outside of your uterus, usually in the Fallopian tube. Ectopic pregnancies are rare but serious, and they need to be treated." Ectopic pregnancies usually attach to the Fallopian tube, instead of the normal attachment the uterine lining, but can also attach to the ovaries or other areas in the abdomen. Ectopic pregnancies are considered potentially life-threatening to the mother and the fetus as the Fallopian tubes are not designed to accommodate the stretching necessary from a growing baby and can tear, bleed, or become infected. Ectopic pregnancies can be caused by an Essure that only partially blocks the Fallopian tube as a fertilized egg is prevented from traveling to the uterus and is trapped by the scar tissue Essure leaves behind. Symptoms of Ectopic pregnancies are usually pain and bleeding however, only a visit to a doctor can determine if you have become pregnant. Again, according to Planned Parenthood, "Ectopic pregnancies can seem like normal pregnancies in the very beginning, with typical pregnancy symptoms like a missed period, breast tenderness, fatigue, and nausea. Symptoms of ectopic pregnancy include severe lower belly pain, especially on one side vaginal bleeding or spotting shoulder pain feeling very weak, dizzy, or fainting." Many women look to immediately terminate their Ectopic Essure pregnancy by abortion as a fertilized egg cannot grow fully outside of the uterus. Ectopic pregnancies are looked upon as a form of miscarriage.

Another side effect of Essure that has gone overlooked is fetal deaths. It has been reported that over 300 women have reported fetal deaths due to using Essure. When a fetal death occurs the removal of Essure by hysterectomy is often required. Essure is also being linked to causing birth defects.
